Priests are normal human beings like you and me. However Jesus gave them the special gift of converting bread and wine into his Body and blood so, we can come into communion with him.
Priests also help us grow stronger in our faith, by teaching and guiding us through scripture; counselling us at our difficult and challenging times, administering the sacrement starting from Baptism to the Annointing of Sick. Among all these tasks, they have numerous administrative work to complete such as running a parish or supporting a community, organising retreats, reading and preparing for sermons, handling financial and legal matters, organising events, getting involved politically with social justice issues etc etc. If you are a missionary priest, there is a complete different angle of work, but again the load can be similar or more.
Do you think priests too, like any human beings can get discouraged or tempted to do the wrong thing? Ofcourse yes, because they too are human beings. They have chosen that life because they want to give themselves fully to God and his people, however they need all the support, prayers and encouragement to keep going in their mission.
If you see an angry priest, just give him a SMILE and say a little prayer for him. You never know what happened, just before. Treat them as your children whom you will love unconditionally. You might ask, why am I writing all this about priests...
Did you know that Christ was our first priest and Mary the loving mom of Christ, was an ordinary mom like us. Imagine the suffering she went through while her son was being tortured in front of her eyes. Our priests are, her son's followers coming down from Peter and the first Apostles. Like Mary and all the women who supported Christ and his followers, we too as moms have a duty to help our priests or atleast pray for them. And most of all pray for new vocations, so Christ's mission could be carried through until the end of time.
This is an invitation to join a little group of moms praying for priests and new vocations. You can also pray for religious sisters and new vocations for that life. Its a call for Spiritual motherhood. Please contact Candida either through this blog, or on 0061-2-9672 8856 if you want to join this community of prayer. I will send you the details.
